Amethyst Wesley Files Federal Lawsuit Against City of Washington

Amethyst Wesley files lawsuit in federal court, withdraws case from Wilkes County Superior Court.

The most recent filing in Wilkes County listed the following individuals as defendants and damages sought of $2 million dollars:

Will Long, City Administrator

Bruce Bailey, Mayor of Washington


Kathy Bouttry, Finance Manager


Kimberly Johnson, City Council Woman


Amanda Miller, HR Director


Yoshe Jenkins, City Clerk


Wesley provided the following statement when asked about the filing:

"Although I voluntarily dismissed my case on 12/17/2025 in Wilkes County, the lawsuit has been escalated to the federal level where conflicts of interest and abuses of power are NOT a concern. That is all I am able to state at this time."

Wesley has also filed several ethics complaints alleging several violations including sexual harassment, falsifying financial documents, mismanagement of ethics complaints and abuse of office. Wesley was contracted to do branding, marketing and web design work for the city of Washington beginning in September 2025.
